How to make 2019 your best year yet!

Have you set a ‘New Year’s resolution’ for 2019? 

According to statistics, most people resolutions for the new year based on improving their health.  

Among the top ten most common New Year’s resolutions are  

  • exercising more 
  • eating more healthily 
  • losing weight 
  • quitting smoking 
  • spending more time with family/friends  
  • working on your self-improvement. 

Also according to statistics, you only have 9.2% of actually succeeding in pulling off your New Year’s resolutions! 

Woah!! 

Are you typically among that 9.2%? 

Now, I’m not usually a ‘Debbie Downer’ but I have to confess in most years past I’ve set out with a resolution and only stuck with it for a short amount of time [Symbol] 

I definitely did last year! 

I started out determined to wind up my evening’s work and head towards bed at 10pm. 

It didn’t take long before my days got completely ‘maxed out’ with running kids here and there, meetings and working in and on my business, extended days working in the clinic and keeping up with the household chores. 

I make up for lost time in the evenings, after my 3 kids are in bed. 

And so it gradually happened; my resolution to get to bed before my husband was snoring and before the clock hit midnight faded away. 

Can you relate? 

There are always so many reasons behind our failure to carry through things. 

The ‘why’ of losing our way despite best intentions. 

We start out our year bursting with great intentions, full of motivation… 

And then it fades, and fades, as ‘life’ gets more real and gets in the way. 

So what really stands between us and reaching the life we dream of? 

For most of us I’d say it’s 3 things  Setting SMART goals Plus seeking accountability and seeking guidance to ensure we reach those goals. 

Intentions aren’t enough, they don’t produce lasting results. 

If you’re unsure what SMART goals are, the acronym stands for Specific, Measureable, Action-oriented, Risky, Time-bound, Exciting and Relevant. 

Have you thought about any health and lifestyle goals you’d love to achieve this year?

So, this year I’ve set SMART goals for the different areas of my life- my work/ business life, my family life and my health. 

I am pretty good at setting and sticking with my exercise and nutrition goals.  

But we all need someone to call us out and enforce our boundaries in the areas we struggle with, so we feel accountable. 

Therefore, I will get my husband to help me stay accountable for my hours working late at night this year, so I get enough sleep. 

I also recognise that in my business life I need accountability and guidance if I’m going to reach my goals to help more people. 

We all need someone to guide us through the steps we need to take, in the right order, to get us where we need to go, in the shortest amount of time: a mentor. 

Someone to keep us on track with our time management and help us prioritise the things that are essential, over the things that we find more enjoyable. 

For me, in my work and business, the ‘Physio Stuff’ comes so naturally to me- so doing work with and for clients and creating educational content is where I love spend all my time.  

I need someone to keep me on-track and motivated in the areas I feel less competent- like updating my website, doing the accounts, networking and marketing my business. 

I will be investing in myself this coming year; joining a mastermind and being mentored by a business person I admire. I am seeking coaching and accountability so I can get the ‘know how’ and the ongoing support I need to reach and help more people.
